The tragic killings in Bokkos, Plateau State, have sparked outrage, with Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party Presidential candidate, condemning the “senseless” violence and urging the Federal Government to take decisive action to tackle the growing insecurity across the country.

On the night of April 2, 2025, armed assailants launched a brutal attack on five communities in Bokkos Local Government Area, killing 10 people. By Thursday, the death toll had climbed to over 40, with additional bodies recovered from the affected areas.

Obi expressed his shock and sorrow, stating, “I woke up this morning to yet another horrific report from Bokkos. Entire families have been slaughtered, with no one spared—children and pregnant women included. Five communities are now mourning their dead, forced to bury their loved ones in mass graves.”

The former Anambra State Governor raised urgent questions about the country’s growing culture of violence: “How long will these killings, kidnappings, and criminal acts continue in a nation that is not at war? How many more lives must be lost before we act decisively?”

Obi warned that killings and kidnapping have now become normal occurrences, leaving Nigerians living in fear. “Communities are no longer safe—whether they’re working on their farms or shopping in markets. In places like Bokkos, Jato-Aka, Eha-Amufu, Ufuma, and Aba Oyinbo, the government must step in to protect citizens,” he said.
