In a dramatic revelation, Buba Galadima, a prominent figure in the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has accused powerful forces of orchestrating a plot to destabilize Kano State and provoke the Federal Government into declaring a state of emergency. Speaking on the political program Jigsaw aired on AIT, Galadima claimed that the conspiracy was being carried out without the knowledge of President Bola Tinubu, further raising concerns about the alleged scheme’s secrecy and scope.

Galadima asserted that there was a “grand design” to undermine the Kano State government, including the Emir, with the ultimate goal of forcing the federal government to intervene. “On the Kano situation, because unknown to him, and I can beat my chest that he didn’t know, Tinubu didn’t know what happened, what was arranged,” he explained.

According to Galadima, the alleged plot was not only aimed at the state government but also involved a high-profile figure being groomed for the Emir’s throne. This individual, who was reportedly intended to replace the current Emir of Kano, was unexpectedly sent out of the country during this critical period. “There was a meeting in a senior official of government’s house in Abuja, and the man that was supposed to be appointed Emir was sent to Umrah. As I speak to you now, he is in Saudi Arabia,” Galadima revealed.

The alleged plan, Galadima claimed, involved detaining the current Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi, in Abuja. Once this happened, he said, the military would be placed on alert, and the throne would be declared vacant, setting the stage for the new Emir to take over. “Their thinking is that once the Emir is invited today, he will be detained in Abuja. Once he’s detained, the military will be put on alert and the throne will be declared vacant,” Galadima added.

Despite pressure from the program’s host to reveal the identity of the individual being positioned for the throne, Galadima refrained from naming names, though he suggested that the public should look into who is currently in Saudi Arabia among Kano’s princes. “No, I don’t want to mention names. Go and find out who is in Saudi Arabia out of the princes in Kano. Everybody in Nigeria knows what is happening,” he said.

Galadima’s explosive claims come at a time when tensions surrounding the Emir of Kano have reached new heights. Just days ago, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, withdrew an invitation for the Emir to report to the force’s headquarters in Abuja. This invitation had been extended in connection with alleged violence during the recent Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, adding yet another layer of intrigue to an already volatile political situation.

As the situation continues to unfold, all eyes are now on Kano, where the political landscape could shift dramatically depending on how these allegations play out. Whether or not this plot to destabilize the state is real remains to be seen, but it’s clear that the political drama surrounding Kano is far from over.
