A devastating road accident near the Second Niger Bridge in Anambra State has left four people dead and two others injured after a trailer lost control and crashed into multiple vehicles.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander, Mrs. Joyce Alexander, confirmed the incident on Thursday in Awka, attributing the tragedy to excessive speeding and loss of control.
According to eyewitness accounts, the driver of a brown Mercedes trailer, carrying an unsecured container, was descending a hill at high speed when he lost control, ramming into a white commercial bus and four parked tricycles.
“A total of six individuals were involved—two adult males and four adult females. Sadly, four people lost their lives, while two others sustained injuries,” Alexander stated.
FRSC officials swiftly arrived at the scene to clear the wreckage and restore traffic flow. The injured victims were taken to Unity Hospital in Obosi, while the deceased were transported to Crown Hospital and St. Edward Hospital.
Expressing condolences to the bereaved families, Alexander urged motorists to adhere strictly to traffic regulations, avoid speeding, and take all necessary precautions to ensure road safety.
