Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has admitted his side will be under “very high pressure” as they take on city rivals Atletico Madrid in a crucial Champions League last-16 second-leg showdown on Wednesday.

Los Blancos hold a narrow 2-1 advantage from the first leg but know they must be at their best to survive at the hostile Metropolitano Stadium.

With a rich history of success over Atletico in Europe—including dramatic wins in the 2014 and 2016 finals—Madrid will be aiming to keep their dream of a record-extending 16th UCL title alive.

“We’re motivated, as always in the Champions League,” Ancelotti assured reporters. “It will be a tough match, decided by small details, just like every time we play Atletico.”

The Italian tactician also emphasized the mental battle if the match goes to penalties, noting that confidence is more crucial than technical ability.

“I’ve had players who were great at penalties, but if they weren’t feeling right in that moment, it didn’t matter. It’s all about mentality.”

Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe, who has faced recent criticism for a quiet first-leg performance, will be under the spotlight once again. But teammate Aurelien Tchouameni has no doubts about his quality.

“Kylian wants to score and win every game,” said Tchouameni. “If he scores tomorrow, everyone will be calling him world-class again.”

With Atletico pulling off a dramatic comeback win over Inter Milan at this stage last season, Madrid must be at their best to avoid a similar fate. Expect fireworks in this high-stakes Madrid derby!
