Born Perry Miller on November 22, 1941, in Queens, New York, Young’s musical journey began in the vibrant folk scene of the early 1960s. He released two solo albums, Soul of a City Boy (1964) and Youngblood (1965), before forming The Youngbloods with fellow musicians Jerry Corbitt, Lowell “Banana” Levinger, and Joe Bauer.
The band’s 1967 release of “Get Together,” a song written by Chet Powers, initially garnered modest attention. His 2019 album, Dreamers, featured collaborations with his son, reflecting his enduring passion for music.
Beyond his musical contributions, Young was a dedicated environmental activist and advocate for various social causes, embodying the ideals of the Woodstock generation. He was known for his commitment to sustainability, promoting alternative energy solutions, and raising awareness about ecological issues.
Young is survived by his wife, Connie, their children, and two children from a previous marriage. His legacy as a musician and activist continues to inspire, with “Get Together” remaining a timeless anthem of unity and love.
As fans and fellow musicians pay tribute to his enduring impact, Young’s music continues to resonate across generations. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
