The Federal Government has approved an upward review of allowances and welfare packages for civil servants as part of efforts to improve working conditions and boost productivity in the public service.

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Esther Walson-Jack, announced the development during a press briefing in Abuja on Friday, stating that the reforms would enhance take-home pay across various cadres of the civil service.

According to her, the adjustment includes an increase in “peculiar allowances” for workers under key salary structures such as the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure and the Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure. She noted that the revised allowances have been structured to benefit employees across all grade levels.

Walson-Jack also disclosed that civil servants will now receive full payment of Duty Tour Allowance (DTA) for approved training programmes, regardless of whether such training takes place within their duty locations. “Even if you are based in Abuja and attend training within Abuja, you are entitled to full DTA,” she said.

In addition to the allowance increases, the government introduced broader welfare measures, including improvements in retirement benefits and compensation for work-related injuries. Officials said these changes are designed to strengthen morale and ensure better financial security for public sector employees.

The reforms also include the introduction of a 10 billion housing loan scheme aimed at improving access to affordable housing for civil servants, as part of a wider initiative to ease financial pressures on workers.

The Federal Government said the measures form part of ongoing efforts to reposition the civil service and enhance efficiency, while addressing the impact of rising living costs on workers.
