Gwagwalada Legislative Speaker, Aide Die in Abuja Road Crash

The Speaker of the Gwagwalada Area Council Legislative Arm in the Federal Capital Territory, Mohammed Ibrahim Ibwa, and his aide have died following a road accident along the Abuja–Lokoja highway.

According to reports, the crash occurred near Sheda village and involved a Mercedes-Benz vehicle carrying the council official and a Sino truck.

The aide was said to have died instantly at the scene of the accident, while Ibwa later died at a hospital where he was receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the crash.

Another occupant of the vehicle reportedly survived the accident and is currently undergoing medical treatment.

Details surrounding the cause of the collision were still unclear as of the time of filing this report, while authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.

The deaths have drawn reactions from associates and residents within the Gwagwalada Area Council, with condolences expressed over the loss of the lawmaker and his aide.

Road accidents involving commercial and heavy-duty vehicles remain a major safety concern on highways across Nigeria, particularly along major transit routes connecting the Federal Capital Territory and neighbouring states.
