The Katsina State Government has announced a ban on the sale of fuel in jerrycans and ordered the closure of Point of Sale (POS) centres across the state as part of fresh measures to combat banditry and kidnapping.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda unveiled the directives through a new Executive Order following an emergency security meeting attended by security agencies, traditional rulers and other stakeholders to address persistent security challenges in parts of the state.
According to the government, security assessments indicated that the sale of fuel in containers, the operation of POS outlets and the activities of charging centres were being exploited to support criminal networks responsible for violent attacks and abductions across affected communities.
The administration said the restrictions are aimed at disrupting the logistics and financial channels used by bandits and kidnappers. In addition to the fuel sales ban, authorities ordered the shutdown of POS centres as part of broader efforts to strengthen security and curb criminal activities.
The measures were adopted after consultations with security agencies and other critical stakeholders who reviewed the security situation in the state and recommended tougher actions to tackle the growing threat posed by armed groups.
The Katsina State Government expressed confidence that the new directives would help weaken criminal operations and improve security across affected areas. Authorities also urged residents to cooperate with security agencies and comply with the measures as efforts continue to restore peace and stability in the state.
