The Executive Chairman of Ado Local Government Area, Hon. Engr. Sunny Oche, has recorded another significant milestone in his administration’s commitment to grassroots development as the installation of solar-powered street lights commenced simultaneously across the ten political wards of the Local Government under the “Operation Light Up Ado” initiative. The project, which aligns with the “Operation Light Up Benue State” programme of the Executive Governor of Benue State, His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, PhD., represents a deliberate effort to ensure that the dividends of democracy are equitably distributed to every part of Ado Local Government.
The successful rollout of the project follows the inauguration of the Solarisation Implementation Committee on July 3, 2026, and the earlier site mapping exercise personally conducted by the Chairman to identify strategic locations for installation. Having completed all necessary planning before commencement, installation began without delay. To guarantee effective coordination and community ownership, the solar lights were distributed across all ten wards, with the elected Councillors serving as Chairmen of the implementation committees in their respective wards. This structure reinforces accountability, encourages grassroots participation, and ensures that every ward takes ownership of the project’s successful implementation and protection.
The ongoing installation underscores the Chairman’s unwavering commitment to putting the people first by prioritising locations that will deliver the greatest public benefit. Markets, major road intersections, public institutions, and other security-sensitive locations are being strategically illuminated to enhance nighttime visibility, strengthen public safety, deter criminal activity, and create a more conducive environment for commerce and social interaction. The dedication of the ward implementation committees further demonstrates the collective resolve to ensure that every community benefits from this landmark intervention.
Beyond illuminating the streets, the solarisation programme is a strategic investment in sustainable development and improved public welfare. By providing reliable, clean, and renewable energy for public spaces, the project reduces dependence on conventional electricity, lowers maintenance costs, extends business hours, and enhances security in identified hotspots. It is a practical demonstration of the government’s genuine commitment to improving the quality of life of the people by ensuring that critical public spaces remain safe, accessible, and economically vibrant, regardless of the time of day.
The Executive Chairman reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to continue implementing people-centred projects with transparency, fairness, and measurable impact. He expressed profound appreciation to His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, PhD., for conceiving the “Operation Light Up Benue State” initiative and for his unwavering commitment to grassroots development across the state. He assured the people of Ado Local Government that the Council will continue to pursue transformative initiatives that strengthen security, promote socio-economic growth, and deliver lasting dividends of democracy to every ward.
