The Super Eagles of Nigeria produced a sensational performance on Thursday night, defeating Gabon 4-1 in the semi-finals of the 2026 World Cup African qualifiers in Rabat, Morocco.

After a tense first half, Nigeria took the lead in the 78th minute through Akoro Adams, who capitalised on a defensive error to score the opening goal. However, Gabon responded late on, parrying Mario Lemina’s shot to force extra time.

Victor Osimhen, who had missed a couple of chances in normal time, including a clear one-on-one chance in the final minutes of regulation, came back even stronger in extra time. Chidera Ejuke restored Nigeria’s lead in the 97th minute, while Osimhen scored twice, in the 102nd and 110th minutes, to secure a convincing 4-1 victory for the Super Eagles.

The result sends Nigeria into the final round of the African knockout stage, while Gabon’s hopes of qualifying for their first ever World Cup have been dashed.
