The National Drug Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has dismantled a sophisticated criminal organization that packaged cannabis as imported “Christmas cookies and snacks” to evade detection. Two key suspects were arrested during a coordinated operation in the Lekki area of Lagos.
The organization allegedly imported a potent strain of cannabis known as “Canadian Loud” and repackaged it in colorful envelopes designed to resemble Christmas treats. According to NDLEA agents, the network targeted unsuspecting buyers and distributed the concealed drugs via social media and encrypted messaging platforms.
During a raid on an apartment in Ikate, Lekki, agents recovered several bags containing the concealed packaging material and several kilograms of the illegal substance. The operation also uncovered a WhatsApp-based distribution channel used by the suspects.
In a subsequent operation, NDLEA agents arrested another major distributor in Mushin, Lagos. He was caught receiving more than 50 kilograms of “Canadian Loud” cannabis concealed in bags and preparing it for shipment. Three delivery vehicles used by the network were seized.
The NDLEA also intercepted cannabis cleverly hidden inside teddy bears at a courier company, revealing further methods traffickers use to evade security checks.
The agency stated that this crackdown is part of a broader effort to dismantle drug distribution networks that exploit the holiday season and employ deceptive packaging strategies.
