Fear has gripped residents of Ogun State following the kidnapping of Magaji Adebanjo, an employee of Vine Crest College, by armed men who are now demanding 100 million naira for his release.

Adebanjo, originally from Imo Arikoko in Ondo State, was abducted while traveling from Iperu to Abuja on the Kabba Highway, a route increasingly known for violent attacks and kidnappings. Witnesses said the gunmen ambushed his vehicle and took him before help could arrive.

The kidnappers later released a disturbing video. In the recording, Adebanjo is seen sitting on the ground with his hands tied. A gun is pointed at his head as he pleads for help. He identifies himself, explains how he was kidnapped, and confirms that his captors are demanding 100 million naira.

His plea was emotional. Adebanjo said he has a pregnant wife, a four-year-old son, and an elderly father who depend on him. He pleaded with Nigerians and authorities to help secure his release, saying he fears he will not survive if the ransom is not paid.

Another man appears next to him in the video. He has a knee injury, struggles to stand, and appears severely traumatized. His condition highlights the growing danger faced by travelers on the region’s main highways.

Highway kidnappings have increased in recent months. Security analysts warn that criminal gangs are now targeting isolated stretches of highway where patrols are limited. These attacks often involve violent kidnappings and exorbitant ransom demands that many families cannot afford.

Family members, colleagues, and community leaders are urging security agencies to act quickly. They argue that the ransom is impossible for the family to pay and that Adebanjo’s life is in grave danger. Many residents say the government must improve security on Kabba Road and other vulnerable routes to prevent similar attacks.

The incident adds to growing concern across the country. Extortion kidnapping remains one of Nigeria’s most persistent security threats, affecting both rural communities and major transport corridors. Many Nigerians are calling for stronger action before more lives are lost.
