Tension is rising again in Jos—and the situation is escalating fast.

Fresh violence has erupted in parts of the Plateau State capital just hours after the government relaxed a 48-hour curfew imposed following deadly attacks in the area.

What was supposed to signal a return to normalcy has quickly turned into renewed panic.

Residents who had stepped out to resume daily activities were forced to flee as sporadic unrest broke out across parts of the city, with reports of gunshots and confusion spreading fear.

Traders abandoned their shops. Streets emptied within minutes.

Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes as people ran for safety, unsure of where the next attack could come from.

Although security operatives are said to be increasing their presence, authorities are yet to officially confirm the latest developments or provide details on possible casualties.

The latest unrest comes on the heels of a deadly attack in Anguwan Rukuba, where at least 28 people were reportedly killed by unidentified gunmen.

The violence had earlier forced the University of Jos to postpone scheduled examinations, highlighting the severity of the security breakdown.

In the aftermath of the initial attack, angry youths took to the streets, blocking major roads and further raising tensions in the already volatile environment.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang had earlier assured residents that the state would not give in to fear, but the fresh outbreak is now testing that resolve.
