A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has declined a request to stop Ireti Kingibe from participating in the affairs of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The decision was delivered by Justice Peter Lifu, who rejected an urgent application filed by some party ward officials seeking to prevent the senator from acting as a member of the party.

The plaintiffs had accused Kingibe of engaging in actions contrary to party rules and claimed she had already been suspended at the ward level.

However, the court ruled that such a request could not be granted without giving the lawmaker an opportunity to respond. Justice Lifu emphasised that fairness requires all parties to be heard before any decision is made, especially in politically sensitive matters.

Instead of granting the request, the judge directed that all relevant court documents be served on Kingibe, allowing her to present her defence.

The case has been adjourned until April 20, 2026, when the court will consider all pending applications.

The dispute stems from internal tensions within the party, with the plaintiffs insisting that the senator continued to act in defiance of her alleged suspension.

Meanwhile, legal representatives for Kingibe have challenged the suit, signaling that the matter could evolve into a broader legal contest over party leadership and internal control.
