The Federal Government has launched the “Hire From Nigeria” campaign, an initiative aimed at connecting Nigerian professionals and service providers with international employers while creating one million export-linked jobs over the next five years.
The campaign was officially launched on Monday in Abuja, with Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Jumoke Oduwole, announcing the initiative as a market-focused effort to promote Nigerian talent and services in the global economy.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said the initiative represents a shift from Nigeria’s traditional focus on exporting physical commodities to promoting human capital, skills, creativity and professional services. He said Nigerians can increasingly provide services to international clients without relocating from the country.
Idris said Nigeria’s youthful population, English-language proficiency, entrepreneurial culture and expanding technology and creative sectors give the country an opportunity to compete in the global talent economy. He added that the Federal Government would support the campaign through its communication platforms and partnerships to increase international awareness of Nigerian professionals.
The campaign is being implemented through the National Talent Export Programme (NATEP), in collaboration with government agencies, private-sector organisations and development partners. Oduwole said the programme would connect Nigerian talent and services with international employers, business process outsourcing companies, investors and other potential clients.
According to Oduwole, NATEP and the United Nations Development Programme have developed a digital services survey and directory covering Nigerian service providers across 17 sectors. She said the initiative would help identify and showcase Nigerian businesses and professionals capable of serving international markets.
The campaign is also expected to feature at the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on September 24, where Nigerian talent and services will be presented to global employers, investors and strategic partners.
The Federal Government said the initiative is intended to expand access to international employment and contracts for Nigerians while generating foreign exchange, increasing economic opportunities and strengthening Nigeria’s position in the global services economy.
