Anambra State is witnessing a major shift in security operations with the appointment of CP Ikioye Orutugu, PhD, as the new Commissioner of Police. Since assuming office, he has launched strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening trust, enhancing intelligence-driven policing, and modernizing security operations across the state.
One of his first moves was an extensive tour of police formations, engaging officers to assess their readiness and equip them with modern policing techniques. To curb conflicts at their root, CP Orutugu has revitalized the Anambra State Cattle Menace Committee, fostering peaceful coexistence between farmers, herders, and local communities.
His leadership has already begun to yield results. The Anambra Police Command, under his watch, has dismantled criminal hideouts, including a notorious camp in Nimo, and cracked down on kidnappers and violent groups. In addition, a newly established intelligence unit is strengthening proactive crime prevention and improving response time to threats.
To further bridge the gap between law enforcement and the public, CP Orutugu has introduced community outreach programs, redesigned complaint management systems, and initiated a comprehensive review of operational protocols to enhance efficiency and transparency.
As Anambra experiences this transformation, the state’s residents are embracing a new era of security—one marked by professionalism, accountability, and a proactive approach to law enforcement. With a clear vision in place, CP Orutugu is setting a new standard for modern policing in Anambra.
