Amid ongoing leadership turbulence in the Labour Party (LP), National Chairman Comrade Julius Abure has launched a three-member Intervention and Truce Committee to restore harmony between the party and its representatives in the National Assembly.

The move follows the recent defection of six LP lawmakers, a fallout from the internal crisis that has plagued the party since 2023. The reconciliation committee comprises Hon. Ben Etanabene (Chairman), Hon. Mathew Nworgu, and Hon. Chinedu Obika.

During the committee’s inauguration at the party’s headquarters in Abuja, Abure emphasized the urgency of the task, urging members to engage LP legislators in both the Senate and the House of Representatives to resolve existing grievances.

“You are our ambassadors in the National Assembly. While we are proud of many of you, we recognize there are gaps that need to be addressed. This assignment is crucial, and we expect a report within two weeks,” Abure stated.

He reassured party members of LP’s commitment to fostering unity and stability, stressing that collaboration with the National Assembly caucus is vital for the party’s future.

The appointed lawmakers pledged their unwavering loyalty to LP’s leadership, promising to handle the task with the seriousness it deserves.
