A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Lagos as a yet-to-be-identified woman jumped off the Third Mainland Bridge into the lagoon. Despite swift response from marine police, she was later recovered lifeless.
Eyewitnesses report that the event occurred around 4 p.m. near the University of Lagos (UNILAG) waterfront. Officers stationed nearby quickly initiated a rescue operation, but their efforts were in vain.
The reason behind the tragic act remains unclear, though speculations point to suicide. Lagos State Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the incident, stating that medical personnel at UNILAG pronounced her dead upon retrieval.
Her body has since been transferred to the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) Mortuary in Yaba for preservation. Authorities are urging the public to reach out for mental health support if struggling with distressing thoughts.
This tragedy adds to growing concerns over mental health and suicide prevention in Nigeria, raising urgent questions about awareness and intervention efforts.
