“Happy Gilmore 2” Is Finally Here – Adam Sandler’s Legendary Golf Saga Tees Off Again!

It’s happening. After nearly three decades, Adam Sandler is dusting off his clubs, tightening his grip, and stepping back onto the green for Happy Gilmore 2—a sequel fans have begged for since the original Happy Gilmore became a cult classic in 1996.

And the wait won’t be longHappy Gilmore 2 officially premieres on Netflix on July 25, with a star-studded cast, jaw-dropping cameos, and a whole new chapter for one of cinema’s most unconventional golf legends.

Sandler’s Back – And So Is Shooter McGavin

The newly released trailer already has fans losing their minds, with Sandler returning as the once-raging ex-hockey player turned golf phenom. But he’s not the only familiar face.

Christopher McDonald (aka Shooter McGavin, one of the most iconic sports movie villains ever) is back for another grudge match. Julie Bowen reprises her role as Virginia Venit, Happy’s love interest and biggest supporter, while Ben Stiller’s sinister nursing home orderly also makes a comeback—because what’s a Happy Gilmore sequel without a little dark humor?

But this time, Sandler isn’t just facing off against Shooter—he’s got some real-life golf legends in the mix. Expect appearances from John Daly, Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau, and Brooks Koepka, plus a few surprise guests, including Bad Bunny (yes, you read that right) and NFL superstar Travis Kelce.

What’s the Plot?

Sandler has kept details under wraps, but the trailer hints at a washed-up Happy Gilmore trying to revive his career.

“I haven’t swung a club in years,” he admits in the teaser, before Bowen’s character pushes him back into the game: “We’re not done with golf. Let them see the Happy I fell in love with.”

The movie will also pay tribute to late legends Bob Barker, Carl Weathers, and Joe Flaherty, key figures from the original who have since passed. Sandler has promised that they will be honored in a meaningful way.

How Did We Get Here?

The Happy Gilmore 2 rumors started when Christopher McDonald accidentally spilled the beans on a radio show in early 2024.

“I saw Adam [Sandler] two weeks ago, and he showed me the first draft of Happy Gilmore 2. It’s in the works. Fans demand it, damn it!” McDonald revealed—before Sandler had even made it official.

Sandler later confirmed that he and his longtime writing partner Tim Herlihy were behind the script, and that they were working hard to make it worthy of the original.

“People have talked to me about this for years… We don’t want to let anybody down,” Sandler said in a recent interview.

Even Drew Barrymore got in on the hype, announcing on The Drew Barrymore Show that she had direct confirmation from Sandler that the sequel was really happening.

A Legacy That Just Won’t Quit

When Happy Gilmore first hit theaters in 1996, no one could have predicted it would become a pop culture phenomenon.

Bowen herself admitted she never expected it to be a hit:

“At the time, I just thought, ‘Oh, no one will ever see this,’” she once said. “I couldn’t have been more wrong.”

Nearly 30 years later, Happy Gilmore is still a fan favorite, and the sequel is set to bring a whole new generation into Sandler’s legendary, rage-fueled, slapstick golf universe.

So grab your clubs, practice your run-up swing, and get ready for the return of golf’s most chaotic underdog.

Happy Gilmore 2 drops on Netflix on July 25—and this time, Shooter McGavin better watch his back.
