Atiku Fires Back: Denies Secret Election Funds from Sanwo-Olu

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has dismissed allegations that he received funds from Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu during the 2023 presidential election, calling the claims a baseless political attack.

In a statement released on Thursday by his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, Atiku’s camp described the accusations as “blatant lies” and a desperate attempt to tarnish his reputation.

“The Waziri of Adamawa does not know Governor Sanwo-Olu and has never met him before. The idea that Atiku, who has no connection with Sanwo-Olu, would be involved in a financial transaction with him during the 2023 election is baseless and illogical,” the statement read.

The controversy, allegedly linked to an ongoing investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has fueled political tensions. Atiku’s team challenged the EFCC to publicly disclose its findings, insisting that the issue was being used as a political weapon.

“Since the EFCC has been drawn into this controversy, we challenge the agency to disclose the outcome of its alleged investigation. The Nigerian public, including Atiku and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, deserve transparency,” the statement added.

Atiku’s camp further accused President Bola Tinubu’s political allies of orchestrating the smear campaign, warning that such tactics would not silence the opposition.
