The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has withdrawn all corps members from Mbaa community in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State due to escalating security threats. The decision follows a series of violent attacks in the area, which have raised concerns about the safety of the corps members.

Yahuza Adamu, the Assistant Director of Information and Public Relations for NYSC in Benue, confirmed the withdrawal on Thursday, explaining that the situation in Mbaa had worsened, particularly with recent reports of armed herders killing over 20 people, including 16 farmers whose bodies were found in River Katsina Ala.

The statement further clarified that since the attacks began, NYSC had not posted any new corps members to the area and had removed all those previously stationed there. Adamu assured parents and guardians that all corps members had been accounted for, following a headcount conducted by the NYSC Kwande Local Government Inspector.

He also reassured the public that corps members posted to Jato Acka Turan, a different locality, are not facing any security threats. “We consistently take proactive measures to ensure the safety of our corps members,” Adamu added.

The NYSC reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and well-being of its members, emphasizing its ongoing collaboration with security agencies. Adamu encouraged parents and guardians to rely on NYSC’s official communication channels for accurate and up-to-date information regarding their loved ones.

The NYSC remains vigilant in its efforts to protect its corps members, ensuring that necessary steps are always taken to mitigate any risks.
