Nigerian music executive Soso Soberekon has made a stunning revelation about KCee’s 2013 smash hit Limpopo—it was originally intended to feature global superstar Beyoncé.
Speaking in an interview with media personality Daddy Freeze, Soberekon shared how a Nigerian billionaire had plans to bring Beyoncé to Nigeria for a concert, meet-and-greet, and a feature on Limpopo.
“There was a billionaire who wanted to bring Beyoncé to Nigeria. He knew nothing about entertainment, so he took us to New York to negotiate. We even went to Jay-Z’s club, trying to connect with her team,” Soberekon recounted.
According to him, KCee and his team were so hopeful about securing the collaboration that they recorded the song with Beyoncé in mind.
“We did Limpopo thinking she would be on it,” he said. “It was all part of the plan, but in the end, it didn’t happen.”
The deal fell through when Beyoncé’s representatives informed them that she would only visit Ghana and not Nigeria, effectively killing any hopes of the feature.
Despite the setback, Limpopo went on to become one of the biggest Nigerian hits of the 2010s, proving that even without Beyoncé, the song was destined for greatness.
