Five passengers abducted during an attack on a GUO Transport bus along the Benin-Lagos Expressway have been rescued alive, according to the Edo State Police Command.
The victims were freed after security operatives launched coordinated rescue operations in the area.
Police spokesperson Eno Ikoedem said the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, immediately ordered the deployment of tactical teams, intelligence units, and aerial monitoring after the incident was reported.
She explained that continuous pressure from security forces, including bush-combing operations and area surveillance, forced the kidnappers to release the victims safely.
According to the police, all five rescued passengers received medical attention and have now reunited with their families.
The command also announced the rescue of four other kidnap victims who were previously held in Imiegba forest in Agenebode.
This brings the total number of recently rescued kidnap victims in the state to nine.
Police assured travellers that security presence has been increased along the Benin-Lagos Expressway and nearby communities to improve safety.
Authorities added that efforts are ongoing to arrest those responsible for the attack and ensure they face justice.
