The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called for an investigation into the leadership of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) over the failure to implement the newly approved ₦77,000 monthly allowance for corps members.

Despite the federal government’s approval of the increase—up from ₦33,000—effective July 2024, corps members were left disappointed when they received only ₦33,000 in February 2025.

NANS expressed frustration, stating that the NYSC has “no justification” for withholding the new allowance, especially since other government workers have started receiving their revised wages.

“The failure to pay corps members their rightful allowance is a gross injustice. This delay is unacceptable, particularly given the rising cost of living,” NANS stated.

The student body urged the federal government to launch an immediate probe into the situation while also planning to engage with the NYSC leadership to demand answers.
