The chairman of the Mobilization, Allocation and Taxation Commission (RMAFC), Bolaji Oyedele, addressed public concerns regarding allegations of improper alterations to Nigeria’s tax legislation, insisting that all modifications complied with legal and constitutional processes.
Oyedele spoke amid debates sparked by critics who argued that the recent changes were introduced without proper legislative oversight, potentially undermining taxpayers’ rights. He clarified that the reforms were necessary to improve revenue administration and align Nigeria’s tax framework with the current economic climate.
According to Oyedele, the process included consultations with relevant stakeholders, including tax authorities and legal experts, ensuring transparency and adherence to established procedures.
He further assured Nigerians that taxpayers’ rights remain protected and that dispute resolution mechanisms are in place to address any concerns. Oyedele encouraged public participation and dialogue to foster understanding and support for reforms aimed at strengthening fiscal governance.
The RMAFC president emphasized that while tax reforms may generate debate, the measures were implemented responsibly to ensure a fair and effective tax system for the country.
